Staged in a thrust configuration, this set featured a 16’x16’ platform raised above the stage and close to the audience for an intimate performance. This intimate staging melds with the floating appearance of the platform to give a dreamlike but poignant effect. Four crosses were inlayed into the floorboards of the set, and a fifth fifteen-foot-tall cross was constructed leaning over the set oppressively. LEDs were integrated in the set as a collaborative effort between Set and Lights, illuminating under the platform, the inlayed crosses into the floor boards, and the massive cross.

Other design iterations
Director Javier Vilalta and myself worked back and forth on a few concepts to connect the ideas of star-crossed lovers, religious oppression, and gothic architecture. Before moving in other directions we were interested in some sort of hanging or standing arches.
